DAI'S TRIP TO LA
What’s up everybody! I know it has been awhile since I have updated my page, but a brotha had been blessed to be working in the business, and boy have I been busy! I have been on the set of the DreamWorks production, Head of State, starring, Chris Rock, Bernie Mack, Lynn Whitfield, and Robin Givens, directed by Chris Rock. The film comes out next Summer 2003. Look for me in the campaign party and the victory party scenes. I had a ball on the set, much respect to Chris Rock, and to the city of Baltimore.
August 8-11, 2002 in Los Angeles, California, I had a real dream come true weekend. I was blessed to spend four days with NBA, Hall of Famer, and Basketball Legend, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and some of the biggest names in Music, Film, and Sports.
The Magic Johnson Foundation presented it’s 17th Annual ”A Midsummer Nights Magic” benefiting the Taylor Michaels Scholarship Program, where Magic paid for fifty kids to go to college. Magic said, “Every kid should have a chance to go to college and these fifty will not only go to school, we are providing all of them with laptop computers and printers to take with them, and for those that are going to school in cold climates for the first time, we are buying them boots, hats, and gloves, so they can make it to every class.” Now tell me that’s not giving back.
I would like to thank Malik Pollard of BEV Networks and Madd Flavor Television, my Co-Host for the weekend, Glory Edim (you did a great job), and to the BEV crew (at least we had pancakes with Trick Daddy and Trina)...lol.
I have had the chance to meet a lot of people in my life, but never have I had so much love and respect for someone outside of my family like I have for Magic Johnson. Growing up in Alexandria, Virginia, as a kid in Little League Basketball, I wore his number, 32, and dreamed of growing one day to be six foot nine. Too bad I ended up five foot nine. However in the fall of 1991, Magic stepped to the podium with his wife, Cookie, by his side and told the world that he was HIV positive and that he would have to retire from the Lakers. At that time, I was in my freshman year at Norfolk State University, and I sat in my apartment with tears in my eyes. I would say, if I ever had the opportunity to meet him, the man I grew up idolizing, I would tell him how much I loved him as a player. I would also ask him about the battles with Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. Well people, my dream came true, and I got the chance to tell him everything I always wanted and more. The four days I hung out with Magic were some of the best days of my life. Thanks to all the musicians, athletes, and the actors who came out with me to show love for Magic. To magic and Cookie, thanks for a great weekend.
Oh yeah, by the way…the Black Tie dinner, $500 a plate. The autographed basketball Magic gave me, worth $5000. The whole experience, Priceless.
